Last Thursday morning, we set off at a decent hour on our voyage to Rochester, NY. There we met up with Margaret, Jeremy and Lily to head off with their new camper to Olde Forge in the Adirondacks. We arrived at our camp site around 7pm and set up our home for the next 3.5 days. After set up, we relaxed for the rest of the evening.
Friday we got up and Jeremy made us pancakes and sausage over the open fire. We decided to hit up the Adirondack Museum after that since it was calling for rain most of the day...as it was for most of our trip.
After the museum, we headed into The Olde Mill restaurant for a great dinner with perfect homemade bread. Upon returning to the campsite, the guys got a fire started so the smores making could begin. I tried to get E a shirt at the museum that said "Smore Smores Please" but they didn't have his size. After the kids were properly sugared up, we put them to bed and proceeded the first game in our Scrabble tournament. Each night it rained as we slept which I thought was the most relaxing thing in the world.
Saturday we got up and had our breakfast...french toast compliments of Tom. Margaret and Jeremy then headed off to photograph some flowers and Tom and I held down the fort with the kids.
When M & J returned, we decided to head off for our hike. We decided to take a nice hike all the way around Nick's Lake. It was a little over 3 miles and really beautiful. Luckily the rain held off for our hike and Jeremy and the kids were able to fish a little.
After our hike was complete, we cleaned up and headed into the town of Olde Forge to check out the little shops. E was deleted to add an Olde Forge pencil to his pencil collection and we were all pretty happy to have some ice cream after a nice hike.
Once back at the campsite, the guys were able to get a fire going before rain hit so we could have pizza mountain pies for dinner. J & T did a great job making fires and keeping them going in the super wet conditions.
Saturday night we finished up our Scrabble tournament and got to bed since we had to get up early to pack everything up and head back to Rochester. We had a lot of rain in the 3.5 days we were there but a great time was had by all. Rain or not, I would rather be sitting in the woods with a little rain and relaxing with my cross stitch patterns than being at home. Kid injuries were kept to a minimum and I think everyone enjoyed themselves...although we did learn on the car ride back to Rochester then the additional ride today back to State College, that E may be developing car sickness if the trip exceeds 2 hours :( Oh well, life goes on and now we go back to work.
Sounds like a lot of fun, Jess!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy camping but we don't go too often.
